Lini Gong

Opera Singers / Soprano

Biography

Lini Gong (soprano) was born in 1981 in Zhuzhou, Hunan (China). She began her singing studies at the age of twelve and studied at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music with Prof. Chen, and Xiaoqun, as well as at the Hamburg Conservatory (Hochschule fur Musik und Theater) in the class of Prof. William Workman, and the Lieder class of Prof. Burkhardt Koehring. In 2007 she graduated with honors in Lieder and Opera singing.

2006-2014 Lini Gong has been a coloratura soprano soloist at the Freiburg Theatre. Since 2014 she sings freelance and appears regularly as a guest artist in other European theatres.

Lini Gong has been the recipient of numerous international awards and prizes, including the special prize at the "Neue Stimme" competition, first prize, and audience award at the "Robert Stolz" competition in Hamburg, second prize at the “Paula-Salomon-Lindberg” lieder competition in Berlin, and second prize at the “Concours International de Musique de  Chambre Lyon”. In 2007 she was awarded the “Berenberg Kulturpreis” by the Berenberg Bank Foundation.

Lini Gong's repertoire encompasses roles from Mozart to Ligeti. These roles include the Nightingale (Die Nachtigall, Stravinsky); Rosina (Il barbiere di Siviglia, Rossini); Annchen (Der Freischutz, Weber); the Gepopo (Le Grand Macabre, Ligeti); Queen of the Night (Die Zauberflote, Mozart), Gretel (Hansel und Gretel, Humperdinck), Euridice (Orfeo and Euridice, Offenbach), Sofie (Rosenkavalier, Strauss ) and Zerbinetta (Ariadne auf Naxos, Strauss). In 2017 she was a guest at the Elbphilharmonie Opening Festival in Hamburg.

Since 2018 she is also active as a guest performer at the Operahaus Hamburg.
