Three Decades. One Root. Infinite Music.

S. J. Jananiy is a multi-global award-winning Indian artiste whose extraordinary musical journey began as a child prodigy and has evolved over three decades across performance, composition, recording and global artistic collaboration.

She began singing at the age of five, released her debut album at the age of seven, and received national recognition at a remarkably young age. Today, she is a distinctive multi-disciplinary artist working as a Film Composer, Singer-Songwriter, Indian Classical Vocalist, Music Producer, Playback Singer, Record Producer, Sound Engineer, Pianist, Carnatic Keyboardist and Multi-Instrumentalist.

Her artistry is supported by an extensive musical education spanning Indian and Western traditions. She holds an M.A. and M.Phil. in Indian Music, the ATCL in Western Classical Vocal from Trinity College London, advanced qualifications in Western Classical Vocal, Keyboard and Music Theory, and a Senior Diploma in Hindustani Vocal Music. She is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Music, reflecting her continuing commitment to both musical scholarship and artistic excellence.

A National Awardee, Kalaimamani recipient, and Asia Book of Records and India Book of Records holder, Jananiy has built an artistic career that moves seamlessly across Carnatic and Hindustani classical music, Western classical vocals, film scoring, orchestral composition, world music, devotional music and contemporary global music.

Her musical journey has connected India with the world through collaborations with legendary Indian artists including Dr. S. P. Balasubrahmanyam, Dr. M. Balamuralikrishna, Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia, Hariharan, P. Unnikrishnan, Srinivas, Vijay Prakash and Deva. Her international work has brought together musicians, orchestras and ensembles from Bulgaria, the United States, Venezuela, Austria, Greece and beyond, including the Bulgarian National Radio Symphony Orchestra, Sofia Session Orchestra and Venezuela Strings Recording Ensemble.

A defining aspect of her work is the way she brings Indian musical traditions into global musical settings—from composing and recording Indian ragas with the Bulgarian National Radio Symphony Orchestra in Sofia, to cross-cultural collaborations with international musicians and ensembles. Her music has been presented on prestigious stages including the Alhambra Concert Hall, Paris, where she performed a Jugalbandi with Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia, as well as the Madras Music Academy, Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre, Shanmukhananda Hall and the Thiruvaiyaru Thyagaraja Aradhana Festival.

Her international recognition began with the Peace Song Award for Puthiya Ulagam Malarattumae, marking an important milestone in her journey onto the global stage. Since then, she has received numerous international honours, including four ISSA Awards, four InterContinental Music Awards (ICMA), Global Music Awards, CLEF Music Awards and IRAA Awards. She has also been invited to serve as a Judge for the ISSA Awards and the InterContinental Music Awards, reflecting the international recognition of her artistic achievements and expertise.

Jananiy is an A Grade Artist of All India Radio, one of India’s highest recognitions for performing artists. She is also a Recording Academy / GRAMMY® Voting Member and a member of the Recording Academy Producers & Engineers Wing. She was also recognised as a GRAMMY® Nominee for her contribution to the album Fury, further marking her presence on the global recording stage.

In 2026, she achieved a landmark Asia Book of Records and India Book of Records recognition for holding the Maximum Music Credits by an Individual in a Tamil Feature Film, for her work on the feature film RAIL, where she held 10 distinct music credits spanning composition, production, arrangement, orchestration, vocals, conducting, recording, mixing and multi-instrumental performance.

Her award-winning and internationally recognised works include Poo Pookudhu, Elay Sevathavane, Jana Gana Mana, Aigiri Nandini, Dil Ki Gehraai (Never Give Up) and Muthaitharu. Whether writing for the concert stage, screen, orchestra or recording studio, she brings together the emotional depth of Indian ragas, the scale of cinematic orchestration and the expressive freedom of contemporary global music.

A child prodigy whose journey has grown into three decades of artistry, scholarship and innovation, S. J. Jananiy represents a powerful contemporary Indian voice—deeply rooted in tradition, academically grounded and limitless in artistic vision.
