Quartetto Maurice, founded in 2002, is one of Italy’s leading contemporary string quartets, internationally recognized for its radical exploration of sound and its deep commitment to 20th and 21st-century music. After a solid grounding in the classical repertoire, the ensemble placed contemporary music at the core of its artistic identity, collaborating closely with today’s most influential composers and performers.
A hallmark of the ensemble is its 4+1 project, where electronics become a full fifth member of the quartet, resulting in innovative chamber works that redefine the acoustic space. Quartetto Maurice has released acclaimed recordings for labels such as Stradivarius and Holidays Records, including a celebrated vinyl release dedicated to Luigi Nono.
The quartet has studied with ensemble and figures such as Arditti Quartet, Quatuor Diotima, Klangforum Wien and György Kurtág, and worked with composers like Helmut Lachenmann, Philippe Manoury, Beat Furrer, Clara Iannotta and many others. Winner of the Italian Music Critics Award “Franco Abbiati” and the Kranichsteiner Stipendium in Darmstadt, the ensemble regularly performs at major international festivals across Europe, the Americas, and beyond, while remaining deeply engaged in education, residencies, and the promotion of new music".
