Ieva Baltmiskyte

Biography

Ieva Baltmiskyte is a Lithuanian guitarist and composer currently based in Brussels. Born in a family of musicians, Ieva became interested in music at a very young age. At the age of six, she began studying guitar at the Garliava music school. Later, she entered the Kaunas Juozas Gruodis conservatoire, where she studied with Inga Raginiene. Ieva holds four degrees in guitar performance, early music and music pedagogy - from the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, where she studied with Julius Kurauskas, and the Royal Conservatory of Brussels where she studied under the guidance of an internationally acclaimed musicians Antigoni Goni and Xavier Diaz Lattore. She is now refining her knowledge of historically informed performance with Xavier Diaz-Latorre in the Royal Conservatory of Brussels. During her guitar performance studies at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatres, she also studied composition with one of the most distinctive Lithuanian composers Rytis Mažulis. She also improved her skills with internationally renowned musicians and ensembles, among them Oscar Ghiglia, Saron Isbin, Konrad Ragossnig, Nuccio D‘Angelo, Pepe Romero, Roland Dyens, David Russell, Elena Papandreou, Gerald Garcia, Adam Holzman, Laura Young, Bosko Radojkovic, Ulrich Stracke, Giampaolo Bandini and Cesare Chiacciaretta, Alfonso Montes, members of Los Angeles Guitar Quartet: Scott Tennant, William Kanengiser and John Dearman, Eden-Stell duo, the Groningen Guitar Duo and others. 

Ieva started her international career in 2004 as a member of the Baltic Guitar quartet - a leading guitar ensemble in the Baltic States. She left the quartet in 2008 to continue her studies abroad and find her voice as a soloist and composer. Her compositions are contemporary, and neo-romantic, often featuring Baltic music motives, as a reflection of her origin. Ieva Baltmiskyte has already performed in many different countries, among them Germany, Belgium, Austria, Italy, Ukraine, Russia, Moldova, Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, France, and Japan. She played and gave masterclasses in prestigious guitar and music festivals like Iserlohn guitar festival (Germany), Seitensprunge guitar festival (Germany), Festival Catharina (Belgium), Festival Chapel for Europe (Belgium), Sansusī (Latvia), and many others. Ieva performs on classical guitar, 11-string guitar, renaissance lute, baroque lute, vihuela, renaissance guitar, baroque guitar, theorbo, and lyre guitar.
