Eri Sugita
Biography
Eri Sugita studied at the Toho Gakuen School of Music in Tokyo. As a Young Soloist at Kronberg Academy studied at the University of the Arts (Universität der Künste), and studied string quartet at the University of Music, Drama, and Media Hannover.
Eri Sugita studied the violin with Azusa Tachita, Yu Nishiwada, Takeaki Sumi, Koichiro Harada, and the viola with Nobuo Okada, Nobuko Imai, Hartmut Rohde, and Amihai Grosz.
As a soloist, she has played with Osaka Philharmonic Orchestra, the Sinfonietta Frankfurt, and the Philharmonie Baden-Baden, Tokyo City Philharmonic Orchestra. As guest Principal Viola at the Münchner Symphoniker, and the Konzerthaus Kammerorchester Berlin, Osaka Philharmonic Orchestra, New Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, and Mecklenburgische Staatskapelle.
She is a founder member of Quartet Berlin-Tokyo. (2011-2016)
2012 won the 61st ARD International Music Competition String Quartet, Special Prize Jeunesses Musicales Germany.
2013, won the 2nd Prize and Public Prize at the Salieri-Zinetti International Chamber Music Competition, Verona Italy.
2014, won the First Prize and Audience Prize at the Orlando International String Quartet Competition in the Netherlands. Also, won the Second Prize at the Young Concert Artists New York International Auditions.
In 2015, won the third Prize at the International Competition “Franz Schubert and Modern Music“ in Graz.
She was awarded the "HSBC Laureates 2015" from the Aix-en-Provence festival.
2016 won the Third Prize at the Joseph Joachim Chamber Music Competition in Weimar. Also won the Special Prizes at the Bordeaux International String Quartet Competition and Banff Internationalen String Quartet Competition.
Eri worked as Sub Principal Viola at the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra (2018-2019), and Hamburger Symphoniker (2019-2020).
In 2022 received Tokitada Sakai Music Award. (2022, Japan) and released her viola solo digital recording from Orpheus Classical. (2022)
