Biography

Sergey Ostrovsky is an internationally acclaimed violinist, conductor, and professor whose artistry has taken him to the world’s most prestigious stages, including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Wigmore Hall, Sydney Opera House, and Vienna Konzerthaus. As founding member and first violinist of the Aviv Quartet for over 27 years, he won top prizes at the Melbourne, Bordeaux, Prague Spring, and Schubert & Modernity competitions, and built an extensive discography with labels such as Naxos, EMI Classics, Aparte, and Fuga Libera.

As a soloist, Ostrovsky has appeared with major orchestras including the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, Israel Philharmonic, Cape Town Philharmonic, and Russian Philharmonic, performing under conductors such as Zubin Mehta, Maxim Vengerov, Yoel Levi, and Hugh Wolff. His recordings feature celebrated works such as Mozart’s Concertone with Maxim Vengerov, Russian concertos by Arensky and Conus, Schubert’s late quartets, Brahms’ violin sonatas, and world premieres by Mieczysław Weinberg.

In recent years, Ostrovsky has also gained recognition as a conductor. Since 2013, he has led ensembles across Europe and beyond, and in 2023 founded the Geneva Symphony Ensemble, where he serves as chief conductor and artistic director. Alongside his performance career, he is deeply committed to teaching as professor of violin at the Haute École de Musique de Genève, inspiring the next generation of musicians.
