Murat Cem Orhan, one of today’s most distinguished Turkish-Italian conductors and composers, is internationally recognized for his visionary artistic leadership and collaborations with leading soloists and orchestras worldwide.
Murat Cem Orhan is a distinguished Turkish conductor and composer, recognized internationally for his visionary artistic leadership and cross-cultural collaborations. Between 2022 and 2024, he served as Artistic Director of the İBB Cemal Reşit Rey Concert Hall and Principal Conductor of the CRR Symphony Orchestra, where he achieved record audience engagement and elevated the institution’s artistic profile.
Trained in Istanbul, New York, and Venice, Orhan’s academic path spans opera singing, composition, and orchestral conducting under the guidance of renowned maestros including Antonio Pirolli, Jorma Panula, and Michel Tabachnik. His artistry has been further shaped through masterclasses with legends such as Renato Bruson and Raina Kabaivanska.
As a composer, Orhan twice won the N.F. Eczacıbaşı National Composition Competition and is the author of three children’s musicals. His large-scale oratorio Kuva-yi Milliye'nin İnsan Manzaraları (2018), inspired by Nazım Hikmet’s epic poem, confirmed his reputation for creating works with cultural resonance.
On the podium, he has led major operatic and symphonic productions in Turkey and worked with ensembles such as the Sofia Philharmonic, Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra, Pori Sinfonietta, Liepāja Symphony Orchestra, and the Azerbaijan Opera Orchestra. His 2024 performance with the Olten Philharmonic at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam received critical acclaim, further establishing his international standing.
Orhan’s collaborations with world-class soloists include Maxim Vengerov, Fazıl Say, Boris Berezovsky, Kristóf Baráti, Hanna-Elisabeth Müller, Olga Peretyatko, Sayaka Shoji, Leticia Moreno, Sabine Meyer, Pietro Spagnoli and Olga Peretyatko, highlighting his stature as a conductor of choice for leading artists. Fluent in Italian, French, and English, he continues to build bridges across cultures through music, uniting audiences and musicians worldwide.
