Ioannis Poulakis

Biography

Born in 1992 in Athens, Greece, Ioannis Poulakis is an accomplished conductor, pianist, violinist and composer. He began his studies at the Athens Music Society, where he obtained his diplomas in piano, violin, and composition with excellency and First Prize. He then obtained his Master of Music at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, before specializing in orchestral conducting under the guidance of Maestro Lucas Karytinos, graduating with First Prize.

As a conductor, Ioannis has worked with numerous prestigious orchestras both in Greece and abroad, including the Athens State Orchestra, Greek National Opera, Greek Radio Symphony Orchestra, Athens Philharmonia Orchestra, and Athens Youth Symphony Orchestra. His international conducting experience extends to countries such as Austria, Bulgaria, Czechia, Hungary, Italy and Romania. He was awarded the second prize (no first prize given) at the 1st Borislav Ivanov International Conducting Competition, which included performances with the orchestra and soloists of the State Opera Varna in Bulgaria. Since 2024, Ioannis has been appointed as repetiteur and conductor at the Bühne Baden in Austria, where he has led numerous symphonic and musical theatre performances. His engagements span across a variety of musical genres, from opera and symphonic music to musical theatre and ballet.
