Antonio Giacometti
Biography
Antonio Giacometti, born in Brescia on December 29, 1957, is an esteemed Italian composer and music educator. Since 1979, he has composed over 200 works across solo, chamber, symphonic, and musical theatre genres, many of which have been performed in festivals and reviews internationally.
A pioneer in musical pedagogy, Giacometti has been active in the field since 1984, contributing extensively as both a publicist and educator. He has authored influential texts such as Musica d'insieme. Anche senza leggio (2017) and Drammaturgie sonore (2022), focusing on ensemble music and musical theatre in education.
Recognized with numerous awards, including two “Abbiati” Awards for music education and the “Golden Guitar” in 2019 for his works dedicated to guitar, his music is published by renowned publishers such as Ricordi and Rugginenti.
Giacometti has held significant teaching roles, including a professorship in Composition at the ISSM of Modena and Carpi, where he was Director of Studies from 2013 to 2019. He regularly holds seminars and masterclasses internationally, including in Brazil, and his compositions address both cultural and environmental issues. Notably, his work Jungle Jazz: uma Sinfonia amazônica (2019) combines jazz and activism, highlighting the fight against deforestation in the Amazon.
Recent major works include the opera Cronache del bambino anatra (2023) and the musical theatre show A chi non c’era (2024), further solidifying his legacy as a composer and educator.
